Oddly enough, I found about 1,500 "This is very exciting" comments from you in that 1974 search, too

Bill, did you find any evidence of plays where Bobby Clarke was not backchecking with every ounce of strength and/or was ever on the ice when "his man" scored a goal? If so, I think his work ethic should be questioned severely, and we may need to think about removing the "C" from his chest.

Well then he clearly needs to have the captaincy removed. I think we should entertain thoughts of trading him. Can't have lazy guys like that on the ice.

I know it. Shero is going to burn Parent out with so many consecutive games. When is it going to be Taylor's turn, Freddie.... and don't tell us against the Bruins on national TV.

I still can't believe they used such an early pick on him. I mean, sure Montreal wanted him, but he wasn't on anybody else's board. Why take such a risk? Should've traded back and taken him later, classic mismanagement.

Would you guys be interested in Clarke for Jean Pronovost and your first-round pick in 1984?

Mark my words, Doug Brindley is going to end up being the best player of that draft. Can't believe they picked Clarke over him.

Pretty tough comments from fans when the team was coming off a 2nd place finish in the West division the year before and a playoff series victory......as well in 1974 the Flyers were in first place in the west !!!!!!
Those fans would have been down right nasty if they were commenting on a team coming off a non playoff season and only 3 points away currently from missing the playoffs again!!!!
Imagine if Keith Allem had signed Doug Favell to a long term deal (aka Bryzgalov).... Or had traded a young Rick MacLeish (aka JVR) for frank Bathe!!!!! Wow then the flashback would of really spewed venom!!!!! Good thing today's Flyer fans are more realistic.....

I notice you've toned down the use of ellipses (though not completely) in favor of exclamation points. Interesting strategy.

* A locally based sports gossip web site had all kinds of lurid stories from their "sources" at Rexy's. They could hardly keep up on reporting regularly which players hung out at Rexy's until the wee hours -- to the point that they simply started writing about the one or two who HADN'T been out (usually it turned out those guys had the flu). Later on, they mainly focused on ripping beat writers Jack Chevalier and Bill Fleischman.

I can't believe they drafted Brian Propp! Didn't they hear about his off ice rumors?

He'll probably never amount to anything.
